STARS, a Christian organization (see our Statement of Faith HERE), features inspired instruction from top teachers in the metro area with decades of homeschooling experience to motivate your students and spark that love of learning.  Our rigorous courses include science curriculum with intensive lab work, including General Science, Physical Science, Biology, Advanced Biology, Health & Nutrition, Advanced Chemistry, and Physics – Saxon Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Advanced Math, and Jacobs Geometry – Computer Programming (Javascript) – Special Topics in Sacred Scripture: Christ in the Old Testament, Christian Worldview – Gov’t & Econ, Dave Ramsay’s Financial Peace course – Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) Levels A, B, and C – Introduction to Literature, Creative Writing, World Literature, American Literature, Journalism, Analytical Grammar, Essay Writing with SAT Prep – SAT Math Prep – American History, World History – Spanish, Italian, Russian, French, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, and German language instruction – Memory Masters – Mixed Media & Art, Needle Arts, Joy of Making (clay modeling) – Classical Guitar, Guitar ensemble, and Woodwinds.

Tutoring is available as well in selected subjects.

Examples of activities STARS has organized for students include:

  • Hosting a talk by planetary astronomer Dr. Heidi Hammel
  • Field trips for a day of instruction at renowned universities (MIT Spring 2013, Yale Spring 2014, Princeton Spring 2015, Duke Spring 2016, and University of North Carolina Spring 2017)
  • Mixers with professional dancing instruction
  • Proms on a riverboat on the Potomac in DC and at 1950’s amusement park and historical site, Glen Echo Park, MD
  • Attending STEM talks hosted by the AAAS in D.C.
  • Kennedy Center outings
  • Seasonal activities such as field trips to Belvedere Plantation
  • Parent-supported activities, including educational talks by local professionals on homeschooling students with learning challenges, homeschooling through high school, transcripts, gap years, and more.
