As some of you may know, every year some families from STARS take their students on a road trip to a renowned university that is hosting the SPLASH program on campus. This program gives students the opportunity to dabble in 50-minute classes (about 5 over the course of a Saturday) on diverse topics taught by undergrad students, grad students, and even professors themselves! The program itself is usually only $15-30 for the whole day, but it seems that this year Duke will be offering it for free due to some generous donors. Woohoo! While this trip is not specifically sponsored by STARS, families from STARS go up together and meet up at their discretion. We’d love to see you there!
2013 took us to MIT and for 2014 we went to Yale, and classes of interest have included “Neuroimmunology”, “Physical Security”, “A History of Firearms from 1886 to Present”, “Cosplay, Propmaking, and Design”, on dancing, dreams, the chemistry of explosions, the science of movie stunts, Chinese, and more! This is a great opportunity to explore interests, discover new ones, see the campus from the inside, and we also usually find a historical site of interest nearby to see as well. This year, we are heading south to Duke University in North Carolina.
