Classical Guitar Studio

Tuesdays & Thursdays 10:30-2:00pm   Mr. Scott Schwertfeger
 
This is course is designed for players at all levels, from beginner to advanced, in a Christ-centered, non-critical environment. The focus is on a structured technique, and a track development of the physical mechanics required for developing ease of playing and confidence in performance. In addition to this, the student will develop music literature concepts, involving standard notation, and music theory, and begin developing a standard repertoire for the Classical Guitar.
 
Required Materials:
·         Standard Nylon String Classical Guitar (Preferred, but will work with whatever instrument is available)
·         Footstool (available at most retail music stores)
·         Music Stand (available at most retail music stores)
·         If possible, a bench is recommended for sitting, but not required, as most unarmed chairs will suffice
·         Texts:
o   The Art and Technique of the Classical Guitar, Vol.1-Christopher Parkening(available at most retail music stores)
o   Bridges: A Comprehensive Guitar Series (www.frederickharrismusic.com)
·         Repertoire and Etudes, Introductory
·         Repertoire and Etudes, Volume 1
·         Guitar Technique (comprising scales and music theory)
 
Cost: Sessions are held on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Individual weekly lessons (30 minutes) $25.00
 
Ensemble: For Students who have advanced beyond the beginning level and are interested in participating in a performing ensemble that will challenge their current skills. The class meets once a week for a 60-minute rehearsal and is scheduled to accommodate each student’s availability.
 
Required materials:
  • Standard Nylon String, Acoustic/Classical guitar, (preferred)
  • Footstool
  
Cost for ensemble: $30.00 for each 1-hour long session. Sessions are held once a week on Tuesday or Thursday. Please contact instructor for details about the schedule.

Saxophone, Flute & Clarinet Studio

Mr. Rogers specializes in all levels and styles of saxophone as well as all styles through an upper-intermediate level in flute and clarinet.  Composition, arranging, & transcription instruction available.  Theory, sight-reading, rhythmic training and technique building are all standard in weekly lessons.

For your convenience, Mr. Rogers allows for a trial lesson of 45 minutes for the reduced rate of $25.  Should you decide to continue, you may arrange a time to study with him at the STARS campus via email at:

Payments are monthly and will be given to Lixandra Rosario made out to Mr. Rogers’ company: NBW Productions, LLC, at the last lesson prior to the start of the month you are paying for.  Submitting post-dated checks for us to keep on file in the office is encouraged.
Traditional Private Violin/Viola lessons

  • Students will study standard violin/viola repertoire, along with scales, etudes, and other repertoire as appropriate, establishing a firm foundation of technique.
  • Students will participate in weekly private violin/viola lessons with daily practice.
  • Middle and High Schoolers will take 45 minute to one hour lessons.
  • Younger students may take half hour lessons, a parent will sit in each lesson.
Suzuki Violin/Viola lessons
  • Students and parents will be involved with learning the Suzuki violin/viola repertoire along with scales and etudes, establishing a firm foundation of technique.
  • Students and parents will participate in weekly private violin/viola lessons and monthly group lessons/master classes.
  • The Suzuki philosophy is that every child can learn their violin/viola in the same way they learn their mother tongue. With the encouragement of a parent and the family, children will learn and thrive in a positive environment.
  • A parent is required to sit in the lessons and aid the student during at home practice.
