Memory Masters

http://www.We-Memorize.com
This class is dedicated to memory work, an integral component of classic education. Memory work not only trains the brain for more rigorous thinking skills, it also provides a wonderful supplement to literature, history, government, and Bible study. In Memory Masters class, students will grow in confidence in their ability to both memorize and recite before the class and others. (I recognize that students begin the year with a range of abilities and comfort levels. They can begin by reciting one-to-one, if that is their comfort level, and move forward at their own pace.) Class recitations, class performances, and class rewards help students build an amazing repertoire of memorized work by the end of the year. Students come away with a notebook filled with all their mastered works, usually 1,000-2,000 words memorized, and with greater confidence than ever before.

2nd Amendment/Firearm Safety

nra book and certificate

Mr. Rose               2:00-3:00pm Tuesdays

An exciting addition in 2017 – The Second Amendment has become one of the most controversial parts of the Constitution. In this one semester course, students will study opposing views of the intensions of the amendment’s authors unavoidably discussing positions of originalism and judicial activism. Several lectures are borrowed from the Billl of Rights Institute, Hillsdale College’s free online course Constitution 101, The Meaning and History of the Constitution and David Barton’s work, The Second Amendment, Preserving the Inalienable Right of Individual Self-Protection.

The course is taught by an NRA certified instructor who will dedicate five or six (depending upon student number) class meetings to teaching the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for safe handling and storage of guns in the home. This is a non-shooting course. Participants who demonstrate proficiency will receive an NRA safety course certification in Basics of Home Firearm Safety. A lab fee of $20 will be required for the NRA guide, Basics of Home Firearm Safety, training aids and printing of the safety course’s certification. STARS moms who are able to participate in these sessions and provide their lab fees are invited to become certified, too.

NRA student packet with guide, safety card and certificate is a controlled purchase which the instructor will provide. Don’t buy the book online, it is included in the lab fee.

Worldview Class

UTT-Group-Hug-portfolio-300x182 (1)

Mr. Rose         3:00pm-4:00om  Tuesdays

Summit Ministries’ – Understanding the Times is a classic invitation to the study of worldviews, a guided tour of the answers to life’s ultimate questions, now available for use in a digital curriculum format.

Understanding the Times, examines the six most prominent worldviews influencing the world today (Christianity, Islam, Secularism, Marxism, New Spirituality, and Postmodernism), and it shows how their influence manifests in the key academic disciplines operating in America’s institutions of higher learning today (Theology, Philosophy, Ethics, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Politics, Economics and History).

Designed as a two-semester course, the SummitU app offers a digital, sequential, discussion-based series of three curricula (this course addresses only one – Understanding the Times) which introduce compelling and helpful ways of thinking about the world. It will launch discussions about how ideas become persuasive and how to identify patterns of ideas so we can understand the world around us.

The instructor will purchase one teacher’s license and one student license per student (please provide student’s first and last names as well as an email for the app). A hard copy of the textbook Understanding the Times is available at a reduced price if purchased at the same time of the student license. Contact Bowen Rose email: rosetlusa@gmail.com if you are interested.

If we help students master the world of ideas, they will be significantly less likely to be taken captive by false philosophies (Colossians 2:8) and significantly more likely to understand the times in which they live and know how to be responsible citizens  (1Chronicles 12:32). So, join the hundreds of classrooms and families across the country (and around the globe!) equipping students to Understand the Times.
